Notes

4. Carl Albert ANDERSON

Grampa was born on Elm St. in Upton On Aug. 5, 1906 in an apartment in a house on the right, just past the Kiwanis Beach Road. The house was originally a school, it was later torn down and a new house stands three now.
In 1915, Grampa's mother died. At that time, they lived in a small house on the Hopkington road, on Pratt Pond. It was decided that Grampa and his brother George (2 years older) would live with Benjamin C. and Annie Wood on their farm on Wood St. in Upton (Opposite Togi's). Ben was Grampa's Uncle (Mary's brother). Grampa's father moved to Worcester and wasn't seen much after that.
A couple of years later, Ben and Annie moved to Williams St. with Grampa and George. Bea Wood and her sister Lois were born there. Grampa graduated from Upton H.S. in 1924. He went to Wentworth Institute in Boston and studied forging and welding.
Ben Wood operated portable saw mills in N.H. and Massachusetts and Grampa grew up in that environment. Grampa was in the Navy from about 1928-1930. He and George ran a sawmill for a couple of years but made no money. Grampa worked in the hat shop and then Drapers.
