June 10, 1843, in Erwin Center, N. Y. Reside in Manton, Mich. He has been in the lumber business, farming, Justice of Peace and Sheriff of Wexford, Co., Mich.

JOHN C. F. TILSON8, (James7, Caleb6, Stephen5, Stephen4, Edmund3, Ephraim2, Edmond1) son of James and Ruth E. (Stebbins) Tilson, b. May 26, 1856; m. Sept. 6, 1881, Addie Meek at Frankfort, Ky. She was b. Oct. 16, 1861, dau. of B. F. and Mary E. Meek, whose parents were of Va.

John C. F. Tilson graduated at the Elmira free Academy in 1874; appointed cadet to U. S. Military Academy at West Point, July 1, 1874, graduated June 4, 1878. Was promoted 2d lieut., June 21, 1878, and 1st lieut. Mar. 24, 1883, in 5th U. S. Infantry. Was on duty at Ft. Keogh a number of years. From there he was ordered to El Paso, Texas, and New Orleans, La., in 1892. In 1897 was at Ft. McPherson, Atlanta, Ga., with the 5th Infantry; Mar. 23, 1897, he was appointed captain in the 5th Cavalry by Pres. McKinley. From the Buffalo Express of Oct. 29, 1901: It is learned that Capt. Tilson had seen much service in the Philippines, previous to going to China; it appears that he was a very efficient Provost Marshal of Pekin, and gained the respect of all. In 1901 Capt. Tilson was at Ft. Porter, Buffalo, N. Y. Sometime previous to 1911 he has been promoted Lt. Col. of U. S. A.
