Hi - I'm trying to determine the origin of the first name of one Spooner Sprague (b. abt 1747), son of Nathan (b. 4-20-1720) & Margaret (?) Sprague. As you may have guessed, I'm wondering if Nathan Sprague's wife Margaret was a Spooner.
Nathan & Margaret Sprague had 7 children
1. Spooner
2. Abigail
3. Nathan (my ancestor)
4. Michael
6. Urani
7. Jonathan
8. William
The children were all born in Marshfield, but the family removed to Waldoboro, Maine between 1759 and 1774. If anyone might shed any light on this I'd appreciate it. Margaret (?) Sprague's maiden name has been a mystery for years. The fact that her first child was named Spooner may indicate that she was connected to the Spooners. I also wonder if naming a son Michael would somehow connect to the name Micah Spooner that appears in the early Spooner family. Thanks.
