My interest is in a Spooner family traced to a William Spooner (1752-1829) of Sherborne, Dorset, where he married (1774) a Mary Oke. I have traced their descendants. My main interest is in the Oke family through a brother of Mary Oke. The origins of William Spooner have not been discovered to my knowledge. William appeared in Sherborne as an adult where he became an innkeeper, the trade apparently passed on from his father-in-law.
In the early 1800s his son, also William, moved to Blandford Forum, Dorset, as an innkeeper. Among his children, Edward Oke Spooner became a doctor in Blandford Forum, and William Charles Spooner became a veterinarian and “manufacturer of artificial manures” in Southampton (see The Dictionary of National Biography, UK).

If anyone has connections to this Spooner family I would be interested to share my data.

Yours sincerely,

John Templeton
