Their a large group of the Spooner family that started with the immigration of my grandfather from Norway in 1876. His last name in Norway was Spone (pronounced in Norway as Spooner). When he came to this country he wanted to continue the Norwegian pronunciation of Spone, so legally changed his name to Spooner. He settled on a farm in Martel, Wisconsin, near the small city of Spring Valley and about 60 miles east of Minneapolis. He had two sons, my dad (Andrew) and Peder who had no offspring. Andrew, after marrying, lived on an 80 acre farm near Eau Claire, Wisconsin and had five sons (Allen, Lyle, Russell, Robert, and Morton (me)) and one daughter, Viola. At the present time, only Russ and I are still living. Al had one son, David, who is retired and resides in Chippewa Falls, WI.
Russ had two sons, Tom (an ENT specialist) and Dennis (retired) and all live in Grand Rapids, MI. I have two sons (Ted, a cardio-thoracic specialist in Minneapolis and Andrew, a commputer scientist in Austin, TX). Ted, has three sons, Marc, a recent graduate of University of Colorado, Eric a student at St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN, and Craig, a student at St. Thomas University in St. Paul, MN.
I am retired for the past 15 years as a computer scientist and have a PhD in electrical engineering from the University of Wisconsin. I served in World War in England with the 8th Air Force as a radar technician. My wife and I live in St. Augustine, FL in life care retirement community. Before moving here in 2003, we lived in Naples, FL, for 12 years and before retirement in Dallas for 15 years and for 29 years in East Aurora, NY, a suburb of Buffalo, NY.
I would be surprised if you have ever heard of the other Spooners who are not descendants from England.
Let me know if you do. I have my father's family tree back to the 1600's in Norway as well as my wife's family tree in Norway,
Sincerely,
Mort Spooner
