Ralph Spooner was born about 1737 in England. He came to New York and was married about 1773 in Albany to Abigail Green. Children included twins Charles and James in 1779, and Robert in 1781, both baptized in Gilead Lutheran Church.
Ralph was a prisoner in the battle of Ticonderoga He had lost land due to his military affiliation. As a prisoner he was not in a cell but apparently allowed the freedom of the fort. He supposedly helped other prisoners escape.
Ralph Spooner (and others) praying a grant of land on the eastside of Lake Champlain, at Five Mile Point between Ticonderoga and Crown Point. {Oct 31 Certificate of Adjutant John Williamson that the above persons served as miners during the War} The second item dated Oct 19, 1765, p384 Vol XX "Return of survey for Ralph Spooner, late a miner in the Royal Regiment of Artillery, of a tract of 200 acres of land in the County of Albany, on the east side of the waters running from Wood Creek to Lake Champlain."
