Message: Start with what you know. Talk to your parents and grandparents, if they're still alive. Get what names you can. If there's a family burial plot, see who else is buried there. Genealogy is like building a mosaic of your family, and it's done piece by piece.
For recent ancestors, the web is probably not the best place to focus. Look at your county courthouse for wills, marriage certificates, birth certificates. Check the church your parents went to, to see if births, marriages and deaths are recorded there. If anyone owned property, you can check property records. Try to go back one generation at a time, rather than finding people from 200 years ago and trying to connect with them. If you can get back to 1930, you can start checking census records.
It's a fascinating trip, and one which never really ends. Please write again if you get stuck.
